Micha González Orfebre

Micha González summons the spirit of the ancient silversmith as she designs and crafts her pieces. She establishes an intimate link between herself and those who wear her art, infusing each piece with passion and care. Hand crafting each of her artifacts from recycled metals and fair-trade stones, Micha creates comfortable, timeless ornaments for everyday life, her foundation built on sustainability and a commitment to the environment.

She is drawn to aquamarine and rutilated quartz precisely because they are imperfect and one can see the history of the stone as it was formed in the earth. These stones might not represent a status symbol or be considered as valuable as other gems, but they enhance her experience as she carries out her craft. Micha is overwhelmed and humbled as she works with materials that were borne of the impressive forces of nature over the course of millions of years.

Micha firmly believes that although humanity faces troubled times in so many ways, art and all things beautiful must be preserved and appreciated, for these are the objects that enrich our everyday lives. Micha considers herself a silversmith; not only does she work with metals and tools, but she hopes that what she creates will become meaningful objects in people's lives.
Before creating a piece, she asks herself “Who is going to feel special wearing this?” “Why would someone want wear it?” “Who needs it?”

Micha cherishes the process, whether standing in front of the instruments that assist her labour, or grasping a piece at the workbench, molding the stone and metal into her art. It’s all part of her day, because creating is her life.
